He ascended to the throne on January 20, 1848, following the death of his father, Christian VIII. Frederick VII's reign was marked by significant political changes in Denmark. The March Revolution of 1848 led to the adoption of a new constitution, which established a constitutional monarchy and a two-chamber parliament.The King played a crucial role in the peaceful transition to a constitutional monarchy, as he willingly accepted the new constitution and worked closely with the elected government. During his reign, Denmark faced the First Schleswig War (1848-1851) against Prussia and Austria. The war ended with the London Protocol in 1852, which maintained the territorial status quo but left the Schleswig-Holstein question unresolved. Frederick VII was the last king of the Oldenburg dynasty, as he had no legitimate children to succeed him.
